Two years from now Jessee Helms will be "dead at 88". Why not "dies
at 86"? and it's shorter, too.

The Village Voice nails it with this one:

Jesse Helms Finally Dies
Village Voice, NY - 1 hour ago
Jesse Helms, an unrepentant supporter of unnatural causes throughout
his life, died of natural causes this morning at the age of 86. ...

How is "dies" shorter than "dead"? Because the "i" is narrower than the
"a"?

You got it.

What are you trying to do with your "two years from now"? The news
made my day and I want to be sure he is dead. Past tense. Before I
open a bottle. Your version is too pussyfooting and one is still
afraid the ghost is coming back.

"Dead" is a present state. He is dead at 86 and he is just as dead
when 88 years have past since his birth. "Jesse alive at 85 (years
after birth), but dead at 88 and 89 etc."

Not interested in obsessions. "Dies" does not guarantee riddance, and
does not confirm that the death process is completed. I was protesting
against your putting the definitive riddance in doubt; many people
can't have uncertainty in this particular case.

"Dies" only takes a little while; "dead" is forever....r

I had a crush on his daughter in High School.

But I was a greaser and she was in the in-crowed so it wasn't to be.

That's the way life goes in Raleigh.

That's like poetry. It would make a great accompaniment to flowers.

You should be more outgoing with your crowed. Just caw out your

interest.

As a quick trip to the whois server at tucows.com confirms.

I never pictured him as a greaser, either. Just goes to show.
